Standing Committees and Working Groups
Standing Committees are spaces where members can organize around a specific issue, project, or focus. Typically, they are established and governed by our Bylaws, but others may be struck by the Executive, Stewards’ Council, as well as membership at a GM when considered appropriate for the needs and purposes of the Local.
Working groups can be formed by, and carry out the work of, general members. These groups are open, self-determined, and semi-autonomous. They must operate within the Local’s bylaws and cannot undermine membership policies; ultimately, they are accountable to the Executive Committee and general membership. If you are interested in forming a working group, contact a member(s) of the Executive or your department Steward!
