Have you been offered “casual employment”?
Sometimes, you may come across job postings in your department for Research Assistants. However, instead of receiving a Research Assistant Form upon being offered the position, you might be presented with a “casual employment contract.” These contracts place you outside of the protection of the Union and often result in being paid lower wages than the mandatory wage stated in the Collective Agreement ($44.02).
