Expedited Procedure
As a result of a recent misclassification grievance, misclassified members have a new, expedited procedure to determine whether you should be GRF or GRA. If you are currently classified as a GRF and think that either all or part of your duties should fall under a GRA contract, contact VP Research Assistants: vpra.psac901@gmail.com
The Union will bring it to the Faculty Relations Office and will try to resolve the matter informally within 10 business days.
If the Union and the University can’t reach a resolution informally, they have two options:
- They can follow the Grievance Procedure and Arbitration process. (longer process)
- They can write to Arbitrator Michelle Flaherty to quickly resolve the matter. Both the Union and the University need to submit written explanations to Arbitrator Flaherty. Within four weeks of receiving all the submissions, Arbitrator Flaherty will review the case and decide if the work you do should be classified as a GRA and fall under PSAC 901 Unit 1 Collective Agreement. Once a decision is made, Arbitrator Flaherty will provide a brief written explanation to both parties. Her decision is final and only applies to the specific dispute.
