PSAC 901 Unit 1 (Graduate Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows) gets $120,000 for health benefits from Queen’s every year under the new collective agreement. For 2014, most of that money is invested into the health and dental plan established by the Queen’s Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS). This investment allows for cheaper premiums and better benefits for every SGPS member. For more details on the SGPS/PSAC901 Health and Dental plan, please click here.
A smaller portion of the $120,000 is invested into the SGPS/PSAC901 Dental Bursary and International Student Bursary. The Dental Bursary is meant to top up dental coverage that goes over the regular SGPS/PSAC901 dental plan, and the International Student Bursary is for members who must pay their UHIP fees themselves, without any exterior support. To find out more about these bursaries, and other financial services available to SGPS members, please click here.
The SGPS/PSAC901 Health and Dental Plan is administered through Green Shield Canada, the country’s only not-for-profit health insurance provider. Student members can register for the Green Shield website and track their claims directly and receive other services. You can visit Green Shield’s Student Centre here. (For the scroll-down menu, your “Student Association” is the “Society of Graduate and Professional Students” under “Queen’s University”). Please note that neither PSAC 901 nor the SGPS is responsible for the content or the maintenance of the Green Shield website.
Be safe and enjoy your time at Queen’s!
